The first International Eucharistic Congress was held in Lille (France) in 1881.
A Congress is held every four years in some city in the world.
Dublin hosted the Congress before, in 1932.
The last two congresses were held in: Guadalahara (Mexico) in 2004 and Quebec City (Canada) in 2008.
The Congress in Dublin in 2012 will be the 50th International Eucharistic Congress to be held.
The Pope decides the theme for each Congress.
He will take into account the recommendations of the Archbishop of the Diocese in which the Congress is to be held.
Archbishop Diarmuid Martin, of course, will have consulted all of the Irish Bishops before he makes his recommendations to Pope Benedict.
A Congress logo will be designed and a Congress hymn will be composed.
