When we pray for the Holy Souls we generally think only of the
benefit we can give to them.
We forget about the benefits we bring to ourselves by praying for those who have
gone before us.
We have hurried their entry into the Glory of Heaven. Will they not return the favour
by praying for us before God while we still live among the dangers and conflicts
of this world ?
And God himself will reward us. "Blessed are the merciful", Jesus
said, "for they will have mercy shown them". If we have mercy for the
Holy Souls now we will be particularly entitled to be treated with mercy at our
departure from this world.
We should always remember the Holy Souls at Mass. For when priest and people
gather to offer their Mass, with the tremendous sacrifice unfolding before them,
will not God be pleased with all our prayers ?
